Santa Barbara County officials have been meeting all day to prepare for a Michael Jackson memorial service or funeral in Santa Barbara county.  Various departments report they are ready including Sheriff, Fire, etc.

At almost midnight last night (6/29/09) a Santa Barbara Police officer reported he was in a foot pursuit through the intersection of State Street and Gutierrez Street.  Immediately several backups arrived on scene, but the bad guy got away.

Despite an attempt to minimize the size of the incoming freshman class by the administration and a smaller acceptance of qualified applications, the number of students who accepted the offer from UCSB has grown 23 percent resulting in a record number of students.

Jr. High and High School Students Perform Cinderella

About three dozen junior high and high school students enrolled in Westmont’s Bravissimo!, an 11-day musical theater camp, will perform Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” Thursday, June 25, at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. in Porter Theatre.

Birding for Kids At Lake Cachuma

Two workshops for bird watching will be available for kids aged 8 to 15 years. The two-day workshops focus on several sides of “birding.  Each workshop costs $15 per child, plus $8 Park Admission fee per vehicle. Space is limited to 13, so registration is necessary.
  

Santa Barbara Film Festival Fund Raiser for 25th Anniversary

To kick off the upcoming 25th Silver Anniversary, the festival is throwing a Silver Screen Bash Sunday, July 19 from 5pm to 10pm at Fess Parker’s DoubleTree Resort in the Rotunda.  The event has attracted early sponsors such as Montecito Bank & Trust, Roblar Winery, Stockholm Krystal Vodka and Rincon Broadcasting.  The Festival is scheduled to occur between Feb 4th through Feb 14, 2010.

The Apple Does Not Fall Far From The Tree

The son of local Pastor Denny Wayman of the Santa Barbara Free Methodist church - Ben Wayman was ordained Saturday (6/27/09) in Greenville, IL.  Wayman, a graduate of Santa Barbara High School, will now begin his doctoral work at St. Louis University.

John Schoof, 48 SB Wastewater System Manager

On the evening of Wednesday, June 17, 2009, John Schoof (age 48) died unexpectedly while undergoing medical treatment at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
