9 Vehicle Car Crash - 5 Injured At Gaviota

SANTA BARBARA - A nine vehicle car crash out at the Gaviota curve this morning at 7:17 am claimed five injuries.  Another two vehicle car crash occurred just a little further down the road.  A Hit and Run driver is suspected.
 
At 7:17 am this morning three to four vehicles were in an accident blocking lanes approximately 1/4 mile south of the Gaviota rest stop.  Santa Barbara Sheriff officers called for Fire support and tow truck support.  At 7:20 am a vehicle rollover was reported.  At 7:21am another car hit the stopped cars.  At 7:22 am, the number of cars involved in the accident climbed to six or seven.
 
At 7:33am another sheriff officer arrived on the scene and report there were now nine vehicles involved in the crash and that the #1 lane was blocked. At 7:34 am the CHP arrived on the scene.  Four minutes later, it was reported that the accident may have been caused by a possible hit and run driver.
 
By 7:44 am 6 tow trucks were request and help from Buelton and SLO was request to help clear traffic.
