In an apparent attempt to seal off the mesa from DUI activity, SB police set up checkpoints at Shoreline drive, and San Andres. Checkpoints were also active in other parts of the city downtown and Coast Village road. Two arrests were made for driving under the influence, and 14 vehicles were towed.
On Friday January 29 and Sunday January 31, the Police Department conducted DUI checkpoints in the City of Santa Barbara. Friday’s checkpoints were on Coast Village Rd and San Andres St, while Sunday’s checkpoints were at Shoreline Dr. and E. Haley St. The purpose of these checkpoints was not only to detect and arrest drivers under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, but also to apprehend drivers who are unlicensed or suspended.
