SANTA BARBARA - Tuesday (11/24/09) afternoon just before 5 pm SB Police came upon two people trying to put out a fire on a house with a garden hose. The house was located at
1319 Salinas Place. The officer called the fire department and made the amateur fire fighters leave the premises.
SB City Fire Department responded with Engine 1, 2, 3, Truck 1, and Battalion 712. The first units on scene reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the duplex. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and perform a complete search of the residence within 22 minutes of first arriving units. There were no reported injuries to residents or firefighters.
The cause of the fire was an unattended candle, although Fire investigators are in the process of completing a thorough investigation of the fire. Firefighters would like to remind everyone that candles are a common cause of household fires especially when they are left unattended.
