At almost midnight last night (6/29/09) a Santa Barbara Police officer reported he was in a foot pursuit through the intersection of State Street and Gutierrez Street.  Immediately several backups arrived on scene, but the bad guy got away.

Police stopped a man on a Harley Davidson motorcycle at the intersection of State Street and Gutierrez Street for a non-functioning tail light. The driver pulled into City Lot 12.  When the officer asked for ID, the motorcyclist said he did not have his license, registration, or insurance paperwork with him.

The officer noticed that the driver had a wallet in his back pocket. When the officer asked the driver about the wallet in his back pocket, the driver fled on foot (with boots on!) through the parking lot and onto Parker Way. The officer gave chase.

The driver ran westbound on Parker Way, northbound on Chapala street, and westbound on Gutierrez Street. The officer lost sight of the driver on Gutierrez Street.  Multiple officers searched the area on foot and with a k-9 to no avail.
The driver was described as a white male adult, approximately 45 years of age, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the word “dragonfly” on the back, jeans and boots.

The driver was not located. The case was forwarded to detectives.
