GOLETA - A sheriff deputy reported a tornado in Goleta at about 10:30 this morning (1/19/10).  Several houses were damaged in the event which occurred in the houses between Girsh Park the Ocean Meadows Golf Course.
Juliet Omori said that she and her husband were sitting in their living room on the corner of Scripps Crescent road when she heard and saw a huge gust of wind tear down a six inch diameter limb from her tree and sling it across her yard.  The entire episode lasted about thirty seconds.

Omori said "The sliding glass door buckled in and out - mostly in.  My husband was waiting for it to shatter.  The noise was unbelievable and the speed was like what you see in the movies."  The City of Goleta came out and helped her secure her roof with tarp.  Her roof, which was now allowing daylight in, was eventually secured with old lumber.  She also drilled holes in her roof in the areas which weren't pitched in order to relieve the pressure from the wind and prevent the roof from collapsing.

There were no injuries as a result of the tornado reported.
