Going the wrong way on Haley and nearly hitting a police car going the wrong way leads one of these drivers to be arrested for DUI.  Three others drove into a DUI checkpoint and failed the test.  Find out how the other drivers were crowned with their DUIs.
 
  

Man jumps of Cold Spring Bridge

Just after 6 pm yesterday (3/10/2010) a Mountain View man - 71 year old Esfandiar Bahrampour jumped from the Cold Spring Bridge to his death.  The Santa Barbara County Fire Department found the body about 200 feet down the embankment.

 
  

Wheelchair ramps to be added at 101/Turnpike

A project to add eight American with Disabilities Act (ADA) sidewalk ramps and new signals at the northbound and southbound on/off ramps continues at the Hwy. 101 Turnpike Road Interchange.
 
  

DUI checkpoint in Goleta Friday

The City of Goleta Police Department will conduct a sobriety and driver's license checkpoint on Friday, March 12th within the City of Goleta, where a significant number of DUI-related collisions and DUI arrests have occurred.

Drunk driver who killed runner pleads guilty

Gregory Doan, age 58, pled guilty to vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run, and multiple counts of assault with a deadly weapon stemming from a traffic fatality collision. The incident occurred on August 30th, 2008, on Las Positas near the intersection of Richelle Lane.
 
  

Santa Barbara woman allegedly throws baby away

On Wednesday morning  (3/3/10), a baby girl was discovered in a trash bin in Redondo Beach. According to First 5 SB County, and the SB County District Attorney, two days later, Santa Barbara resident, Jessie Lauren Canfield was arrested on suspicion of murder. According to a press release Canfield confirmed that she gave birth to the baby while attending a party in Redondo Beach and had put the baby in the garbage bin.
 
  

High school marijuana cookie monster goes to jail

On Tuesday (3/2/2010) at about 1:50 pm, SB County fire and medical emergency staff were called to the principal's office on the report that a student had overdosed on Marijuana cookies.  Today, the SB Sheriff’s office arrested Santa Ynez High School student Rodrigo Guzman for providing marijuana laced cookies to a classmate who ended up in the hospital.

Sheriff looking for alleged stalker - CAUGHT

UPDATED: The Santa Barbara Police caught Casey Lee Wadsworth and arrested him on suspicion that he is stalking a woman in Santa Barbara.  Wadsworth allegedly threatened a woman and her co-workers who was an acquaintance.
 
 
  

101 paving planned

Caltrans officials announced a project to repave 8.5 miles of Highway 101 from Milpas Street to just south of Patterson Avenue is expected to begin this summer.

NOAA has issued a Tsunami Advisory for the West Coast
 

 
 The NOAA has predicted a tsunami could hit starting 12:30 pm Pacific time, however news reports from CNN indicate that the warnings could be off by as many as three hours.

Markowitz murderer sentenced to life

Earlier today Judge Brian Hill sentenced Jesse James Hollywood to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the kidnapping and murder of 15-year Nicholas Markowitz in August, 2000.
 
  

Another alleged child molester arrested

LA man lures five year old girl into apartment complex and allegedly touched the girl inappropriately.  The man was discovered by the girls' mother who returned from running an errand.  The father was at home at the time the crime was supposed to have been committed.
 
  

Goleta man arrested/accused of molesting local teen

SB Sheriff arrested 63 year old John Owen and accused him of molesting a local teenager since 2000 when the victim was seven years old and continued for four years.  Bail was set and posted by Owen for $100K.

Seven drug investigations led Sheriff’s Narcotics Detectives to arrest 23 people at locations throughout Santa Barbara County on virtually every day between Monday and Friday last week.
 
  

DUI stats from weekend checkpoint

In an apparent attempt to seal off the mesa from DUI activity, SB police set up checkpoints at Shoreline drive, and San Andres.  Checkpoints were also active in other parts of the city downtown and Coast Village road.  Two arrests were made for driving under the influence, and 14 vehicles were towed.

A man (Michael Jon Helman, age 47) who was allegedly acting lewd in San Roque area, led police and locals on car chase that ended with the man crashing into several cars, and a fence as he tried to escape police.

Deputies save inmate

Four Custody Deputies with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department were honored this afternoon for their role in saving the life of an inmate who attempted to commit suicide while in the County Jail.

Local ExxonMobil officials recently presented the Santa Barbara Firefighter’s Alliance with $5,000 to purchase needed weather meters, GPS units, and Bendix King Radios for use by local fire departments.

Fire on de la Vina torches apartment

An early morning apartment fire on de la Vina this morning required four engine companies to finally extinguish.  Fire alarms on adjacent apartments alerted residents to the unoccupied apartment.  There were no injuries.

71 Inmates released from county jail

Rules that tally inmate time off for good behavior changed recently.  Inmates now get one-half day off instead of one-third day off for each day of good behavior.  22 inmates were released from jail, and 49 others were released from other programs
 
  

Three homeless die over weekend

Three homeless people, two men and a woman, were found dead this weekend, all in unrelated circumstances.
