Early Thanksgiving Celebration at Local Church

Thanksgiving started early this year for one huge family.  It's an annual event, actually.  Hundreds of families show up each year for the All-Church Thanksgiving Dinner.

A five-person panel of experts will discuss “Christian Perspectives on the Ethical Treatment of Animals in Factory Farms and Scientific Laboratories” Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 3:30 p.m. in Westmont’s Hieronymus Lounge. The discussion is free and open to the public.

The son of local Pastor Denny Wayman of the Santa Barbara Free Methodist church - Ben Wayman was ordained Saturday (6/27/09) in Greenville, IL.  Wayman, a graduate of Santa Barbara High School, will now begin his doctoral work at St. Louis University.

Local Author Zoe Murdock Hold Book Signing

Local author Zoe Murdock will hold a book reading and signing at the Tecolote Bookstore May 23rd from 2 to 3 pm.  Her new book chronicles the  devastation brought upon a Utah family when the father has a vision which leads him to become involved  with a local polygamist group run by a self-serving fundamentalist. Author Murdock: "Torn by God is a story from my life."

Justin Barrett, internationally recognized researcher in the cognitive science of religious belief, discusses “The Naturalness of the Supernatural: The Cognitive Science of Religion” Monday, April 6, at 7 p.m. in Hieronymus Lounge inside Westmont’s Kerrwood Hall.  The talk explores the human brain, and religious belief.
