Das Williams announces fund raising results

By Matt Mason on Jan 21, 2010 at 02:16 PM in Politics
SANTA BARBARA - Das Williams, Democrat candidate for 35th Assembly announced today that he raised over $300,000 in the campaign fund reporting cycle that finished at the end of the year.  Williams must win the primary in November and beat out Susan Jordan, the husband of termed-out Pedro Nava.

Williams, currently an SB City Councilman has said a majority of his contributors are in district.

Williams camp wasn't ready to release the total number of contributors, but said "I'm humbled by the outpouring of support locally, residents and activists are investing in this campaign not only with their checkbooks, but also with their time, their energy, and their hearts."

Williams currently serves on the City Council which represents about a quarter of the district he is running for.

Das Williams added, "During this campaign I've seen the frustration and disillusionment on the faces of so many voters in all corners of the district. They're clearly sick and tired of the political bickering, grandstanding, and bad decisions that have paralyzed our state. Voters want results -- not rhetoric."

Williams recently announced again that he is for drilling off the coast, although he is also for the extraction tax like Pedro Nava.  The extraction tax has been panned as an anti-job and unnecessary tax.  If the drilling is allowed on Tranquillion Ridge, which Williams also supported until the politcal deal fell apart, some estimate that SB County would immediately get a windfall $15m based on the estimates of the oil that is actually in the ground - potential mineral extraction.

A Williams campaign staffer recently emphasized that Williams is not for drilling.  However, the Tranquillion Ridge project "expand(s) offshore oil drilling in exchange for the early decommission of several offshore platforms".
