SANTA BARBARA - A roofing truck caught fire today in the middle of the road on upper State street which eventually shut down traffic heading downtown.
Although the fire was only a block away from a city fire station, a fire truck from another station had to come to douse the fire. That truck was aided by another city fire truck a short time later.
The truck had flames leaping as high as ten feet in the air with black acrid smoke filling the air and curling hundreds of feet in the air. Two employees from Superior Roofing milled about helplessly as their truck burned. When asked what happened they said "We don't know, we just were returning from a job and it caught fire!"
